The Old Neptune, Whitstable
The Old Neptune, Whitstable, 10th August 2002:
A mammoth two-day affair this year and we were the first band on the first day (a slot I specifically asked for in case you’re wondering). Amazingly, following the biblical deluge of last year (playing with Kardium), or the jinxed sitcom-sans-jokes that was our very first gig at Music Day 1999, everything ran smoothly (albeit late, but that was probably for the better, as it meant we had a bigger audience). So, no rain, no AWOL drummers, no crap singer, no amps blowing up, or breaking three strings at once: just good weather, a decent crowd and a “nice” atmosphere. Blimey! I had to pinch myself.
Our set was followed by a fine set from Shonet and Ally, who borrowed my guitar and amp, though I wasn’t sure about the Lynyrd Skynyrd cover! We got some favourable comments. My rust-bucket Polo shifted all the gear home without complaining. Apparently two bands failed to turn up, but otherwise the day went according to plan, and there was no rain. Sunday I completely missed due to feverish recording activities, so you’ll have to ask someone else.
Set list:
- Fido, You’re Leash Is Too Long (Magnetic Fields)

Quote (soundman to bass): “It’s a Marathon! Christ!”
