Our Gigs/Past Gigs

Star and Garter, Manchester, 26th Jauary 2003:

Star and Garter 02

The third Psychotic-Munchkin extravaganza, and technically the best (oh, the joys of rehearsals). After the usual madness of getting all the gear to Manchester, finding the rehearsal room, traversing the Manky Way, and experiencing the Stealth Munchkin’s dada-ist approach to organisation, we arrived at the Star & Garter to find an even more, er, “intimate” crowd than usual, but fortunately they were appreciative. First band up was Nu-Lyrics. With an average age of 16 and a set comprising mostly of covers, they made me quite dewy eyed with nostalgia. But enough of that. They were very together and had a singing drummer, but fortunately no further resemblance to the Eagles.

Our set went pretty well. Tim did his usual INSANE percussive onslaught and Gav, with super-furry new Hartke amp, was as Peter THE ROCK! (Or maybe that should be the Hook?) All my pedals worked, the Ibanez and Laney made me get all warm and tingly, and I got to bounce the Tanglewood (the legendary “pink strap-on”) around the stage. We also got a rather good soundboard recording, thanks to the mysterious French soundman.

Stealth Munchkin were their usual kerrrrrayzeee selves with old/new favourites including “Mayan Blood”, “Lay Off The Booze” and a cover of Love’s “7 & 7 Is”. The evening fizzled to a close with the now traditional medley/trampling all over of “Last Train”, “Hallelujah”, and “Louie Louie”.

Thanks to the Munchkins and Munchkettes for arranging the evening and special thanks to Gav’s Granny for keeping us extremely well fed.
