Local Hero Records, Canterbury
Local Hero Records, Canterbury, 4th May 2003:
Well, this was supposed to be a set from me, followed by a set with Katie Bradley as the main act. However, fate intervened and Katie was ill, leaving me with two hours to fill on my own! Still, I like a challenge… With the Baldwin (The Magic Guitar, no less!!) and freshly acquired Rickenbacker (ooh, baby) I managed to belt out two sets. One or two songs were a little under-prepared, but I got away with it and the audience seemed more than happy. The Local Hero set-up is a most promising development. At the moment they have day-time gigs and a café, plus a shop that sells CDs by local performers, vinyl and T-shirts. This is all in a lovely old dance hall in the Oddfellows Hall in Orange Street. The proprietors are very nice and refreshingly unpretentious, plus they want me back. They (Local Hero) are trying to obtain a licence to open in the evenings and have full bands. This would be excellent, as there is really nothing like this round here. Please check it out.
