Unpeeled
I’ve just found that we got a good review from the notoriously unpredicatble and hard to please Shane in Unpeeled zine. Although he’s harshly condescending about my press pack (I was only trying to be nice!) he loves the music itself.
The Psychotic Reaction “Rumble” (Seasalter Sounds)
The greasy toads write a snivelling letter… “I can’t believe I managed without it[Unpeeled] for so long!” and then send in an album with a 2003 date stamp. I can’t believe I’m playing it and I certainly can’t believe how damn down home, shit-kickingly fine, bendy and cool the fucking thing is.Metal-blue-grassed-smacked-arse stuff all the way with impeccable timing, construction, tight as the proverbial, in complete disregard of the rock rules that demand loose-limbed and cool creation must be offset by endearingly sloppy playing. The Psychotic Reaction are having none of that old crap, you, on the other hand, could have a fine old time with the liquid guitars and increasingly frantic bass n drum coils of “Dance Of The Midwich Cuckoos”, but stupid, indulgent intro aside, my fave is the Canterbury sound seduces Pink (Double White) Floyd drones, tones and effects of “A Beautiful Hypothesis Destroyed By An Ugly Fact”, too cool for school.
