As winter slowly recedes, we emerge from our bunker. We’ve been busy- a few gigs here and there, more work on recordings (the new single and EP), Dr. Gav has rebuilt the entire homepage, and Leo and Powley have recorded a Mane album (with some characteristically atonal contributions from me!); so what happens next?
Our new single, the double A-side “A Moment Of Clarity” and “Overdraft Blues” will be released on 17th April. The tracks will be completely free MP3s and will be available at MySpace and LastFM. There will also be videos for both tracks on YouTube. Watch out for them nearer the release date. Meanwhile our YouTube profile has links to some videos of other bands we like.
We have another EP nearly ready which will be coming out some time in the summer.
Meanwhile, we will be adding more content from the old site and making new posts here.
Welcome to the brand new Psychotic Reaction website which is completely different from the old one. This site is built around a Wordpress blog, which is more flexible than the old site and has lots of cool features. You can find important information in permanent pages linked to near th top of the sidebar. Other content will be in the form of blog posts, which we hope will keep the site fresh. You can also comment on any posts. Post categories are similar to the structure of the old site, but are more flexible. We’ll be copying all the old content onto this site over the next few weeks as well as posting new stuff, including more opinion pieces/rants about music and other stuff.
Subscribe to the RSS or Atom feed to get all the latest updates without having to check the site.
See the sidebar for links to our other web presences. At LastFM you can listen to more or less everything we’ve ever released, and download some free MP3s. Flickr has all our photo archives, which you can tag, comment, annotate, and see on a map. And there’s still our MySpace page, although it’s becoming increasingly obvious that MySpace is rubbish. Wordpress is better for blogging. LastFM is better for music. Flickr is better for photos. Second Life is better for cyber sex.
You will also notice the dates of forthcoming gigs conveniently displayed in the sidebar. Now there’s no excuse for missing them.
Wake up on a brand new day,
Take a brand new way,
Have a brand new say,
But will you see my way this time?
This time,Come with me to the Roman stones,
So cold and old,
Walk with our soles on the Roman stones,
Crumble in my grasp,
Where are they now, you ask?
Food stuff for the ferns,
Fossilised stools of the worms,
So don’t look down just kiss me now,
Before it gets too late,
It’s our duty to procreate,
Before we run out of time,
Love is what we’ll leave behind,
Lost in the cutting almost up to your waist,
Almost vanished for good but I can still trace,
I can hear them still I can smell it in the air,
Call from beyond the grave,
And what do you think they say?
Do not waste your hours in the day,
Before good sense stops you in your tracks,
If you stop yourself, you’ll only look back and wonder,
And pretty soon we’ll be six-feet under,
Stuck to students trowels, shut in museums bowels,
So don’t look down just take my hand,
Before you can change your mind,
Before we run out of time,
Before our inhibitions bite,
Before the dying of the light.
Williams, 2002. Another song intended for the next album, which we have occasionally played live.
Cover me, keep me warm,
Cover me, away from the storm,
Sit alone, cold inside,
Wait for something, to change my mind,No way home, no way home,
I can’t see through the trees,
I can’t see in front of me,
No way home, no way home,
Always so close, but I couldn’t reach,
Always wanted to say, but I couldn’t speak,
Remember me, when you go away,
Cover me, come back and stay,
No way home, no way home,
I can’t see through the trees,
I can’t see in front of me,
No way home, no way home.
Williams, 1997. Unreleased song from our early repertoire. I play it if I’m feeling really, really, really miserable.
Now I never meant to be rude,
Display this less than Christian attitude,
But I should have murdered you,
When I had the chance,I don’t think I like your band,
I don’t like it’s “philosophy”,
Do you get some kind of weird pleasure,
Reading patronising poems to me?
Your lyrics break my heart,
You patronising tart,
So go and play your supercilious songs,
Have the shit-heads all sing along,
I should have murdered you,
I should have strangled you in your sleep,
I should have murdered you,
Then stole your watch and sold your gold teeth,
I should have murdered you,
I should’ve dropped the toaster in your bath,
I should have murdered you,
I could have had the final laugh,
Oh, he’s such a serious artist,
One day he’ll be every month in Guitarist,
You knock me down just to build yourself up,
The way you act it makes me want to throw up,
Yeah, I know it’s all your song,
You’re always right and I’m always wrong,
So I’m just a monkey to your monolith,
For all you care I don’t exist,
Are you some kind of social Darwinist?
Only happy having your arse kissed?
Oh, I should have murdered you,
when I had the chance.
Williams/Croft 2002. Yet to be released or recorded. Who can it be about?
I had a moment of clarity,
I recognised the disparity,
Between desire and reality,
My doppelganger’s double came and spoke to me,
Face to face with a vision,
A 3-D premonition,
Speaking in tongues,
What have you done?
I thought I was spent,
But I’ve not even begun,
Forked lightning striking on an empty street,
The truth incinerates your old conceits,
I experienced a vision,
A Technicolor apparition,
In surround-sound Pan-o-vision,
My old life in ignition,
I had a message on my aerial,
Direct from the Archangel Gabriel,
Your whole life is in a quandary,
Your job has mired you in apathy,
It is the essence of banality,
You must act now for your sanity,
You have reached a crucial stage,
Instinct demands a change,
Second thoughts will let you go insane,
You can no-longer tolerate the same-old same-old,
Seize it by the reins,
Forked lightning striking on an empty street,
The truth incinerates your old conceits,
I experienced a vision,
A Technicolor apparition,
In surround-sound Pan-o-vision,
My old life in ignition.
Williams, 2005. Had its live debut in 2005, and released as a double A-side single with the instrumental “Overdraft Blues” 17th April 2007.
Love isn’t the answer,
Love won’t mend your heart,
Love isn’t the answer,
But it’s a start,Withering flowers in ivory towers,
Sleep in a bed filled with thorns,
Yes I know full well what you are trying to say,
But I only hear what I want to hear,
Lie and indulge idle curiosity,
Still I feel the lingering charge,
Embers still possess the potential to burn,
Instead we adhere to the law,
Of diminishing returns,
Love isn’t the answer,
Love isn’t enough,
Love isn’t the answer,
And that’s just tough,
The love that we made only serves to abrade,
My memory continues to fade,
Remind me why I’m here,
All we had was now and now is no more,
We mutually abhor where we mutually adored,
Every action corrodes and every sentence erodes,
Where did it go right and where did it go wrong?
I don’t know,
Love isn’t the answer,
Love won’t mend your heart,
Love isn’t the answer,
But it’s a start,
Williams, 2002. My epic ballad. One for the next album.
Knickers in the photocopier,
Just deny everything,
Knickers in the photocopier,
How can anyone know anything?
There were five minutes to go,
Before the office was closed,
There was a post-it on the CC-TV,
No-one else can know it,
It was our one wild moment,
Just you, the Xerox and me,
Knickers in the photocopier,
Of course, the whole incident’s denied,
Knickers in the photocopier,
Why’d you leave the evidence behind?
Knickers in the photocopier,
Just deny everything,
Knickers in the photocopier,
How can anyone know anything?
Bored and depressed,
I try to picture you undressed,
But it’s no use,
Chained to my desk,
Faced with the outline of your breasts,
I turn to puce,
Now I must confess,
All the things that I’ve suppressed,
And face the truth.
Williams, 2001. Although this was written a few years ago, we have recently revived it and recorded a version at Bigsqueak. It is featured on Genre Music Is The Enemy.
I need to run from this smell,
I need to crawl out of this hell,
This sad small town is like a trap,
I’m not going to be the one that snaps,
Close your ears, don’t send to know,
‘Cause this time it’s for me the bell tolls,
I wanted to pull you from the dead ends,
pull you from the fists of your boyfriend,
But that was then,
You don’t care anyway,
so I’m on my way,
You don’t care anyway,
Wake up, face the world it’s in your head,
Wake up, time for work, it’s in your head,
Painkillers of innumerable kinds,
Spent all my money and they wasted my time,
Left me in pieces when my mind they blew,
Put back together some parts too few,
This indolence has made me weak,
I won’t toke and joke with all the sheep,
Away from the bland sights, go for the bright lights,
I know that you can make things right,
I can’t pretend I’m not the same,
when all these feelings still remain,
Revamp my brain,
You don’t care anyway,
So I’m on my way,
You don’t care anyway,
Wake up, face the world it’s in your head,
Wake up, time for work, it’s in your head,
And only you can change it.
Williams/Croft, 1997. A regular feature of the live set which is definitely going to be on the next album.
