Force Of Nature
Say what you like, I’m not deceiving,
I saw it with my own two eyes,
Impossibles I don’t believe in,
Miracles I recognise,
When that girl walked down the street,
Grown men wailed and gnashed their teeth,
In her wake a trail of bedlam,
Weeds wilting in her heat,Explodes from the floor in a puff of smoke,
Give it up, you haven’t got a hope,
Before your eyes she levitates,
Her very gaze will enervate,What do you mean you did not see?
Did no-on notice her but me?
Don’t you know the one I mean?Worlds collide and buildings crumble,
Parameters blown open wide,
Cynics sigh and poets mumble,
Orators are left tongue-tied,
This is something more than skin-deep,
Elements hitherto undescribed,
The life force pours forth at her feet,
Supernova x-ray eyes,She is everything you want but fear,
She’s too old, too young, too weird,
As soon as she’s here she’s disappeared,
Deity in DM boots,What do you mean you did not see?
Did no-on notice her but me?
Don’t you know the one I mean?I drift awake and she is nowhere,
She is nowhere to be seen,
Wherever she’s gone, I want to go there,
I retreat into my dreams,
Unobtainable, uncontainable,
What do you waste your ardour for?
Gone like a name carved in the sand,
On tomorrow morning’s shore.
Williams, 2002. A live favourite which has yet to be released.
